    good stuff
I am a graphic design student. I know Photoshop well, have a pretty good sense of design, but know web design less well. For me, this book is excellent.

In the section on Developing A Design Concept, the author gives great advice 2 designers in deciding upon structure & site hierarchy, stressing ease of use over "prettiness."

His critique of existing websites is helpful, as are the Photoshop tips. The writing is clear & concise.

I would have given the book 5 stars if there were an updated version that incorporated information about CS 2. As it is, I still recommend it highly 2 designers.

P.S. About the author reviewing himself--many authors/marketers do this anonymously. I think it's forthright of him 2 identify himself.

A slick presentation but no nuts & bolts!
Was I ever happy 2 find this title! I bought it instantly. When I started 2 try 2 make some sense of where 2 start, I found myself jumping all around the chapters 2 try 2 get going with my first Photoshop/Go Live project. Today, I'm still stuck & can't find anything 2 tell me how 2 get from finished Photoshop layers 2 a finished Go Live site. Obviously I'm extremely disappointed with this book. The author seems 2 gloat over having done mega dollar sites & has friends in that club whom he quotes & shows samples from. I'm not there yet & perhaps the bigger problem is that Adobe never could make GoLive as user friendly as Dreamweaver (which they recently BOUGHT).
Do yourself a favor. Unless you want 2 pay 4 a beautiful, almost coffee table book, find something that gets 2 the nuts & bolts of building a site & give this book 2 your grandma.

notice the review ratings are padded by the author?
I am always extremely suspicious of any book where the author does a review of his own book & gives himself 5 stars in an attempt 2 influence buying behavior. Also note that there is another "name" that repeatedly assigns this book 5 stars 3 different times. Kinda makes you wonder about the book deosnt it?

After looking at this book I recommend you should review this book yourself carefully before making a buy decision & not rely on the positive "reviews" you see here.

The best book on the subject. No update 4 CS planned
I am the author of this book & if you are looking 4 the most advanced book on the subject, this is it. There is no other book out there that covers Web Design with Photoshop 2 that level. For people who look 4 an easy how-to book, this might not be the right choice, but 4 anyone who wants 2 be an expert in Web Design with Photoshop, you simply have 2 buy this one because the information that you get in this book is not available in anywhere else. For example, the information on image compression is unsurpassed & this book has many gems in it that you won't find when browsing quickly through the book. I can only encourage you 2 compare this book 2 others before you make a buying decision (it is also the most beautifully designed book on the market which in my opinion is important. After all, this is a book 4 designers). But the main reason 4 me writing a review here is 2 inform you that THERE WILL BE NO UPDATE OF THE BOOK FOR CS! My publisher & I decided a long time ago that we were going 2 skip this software release simply because it didn't have enough new web features 2 justify the time & cost 2 print a new edition (plus I was working hard on my QuarkXPress 6 book). If you own Photoshop CS & are looking 4 a Photoshop Web Design book, you can buy this book without having 2 worry about if the content still applies. It does! The only two things that have changed in CS is that you have now Layer Comps (allowing you 2 save a layer combination) & a different HTML export when using the slicing tool. I probably will post some updates on my web site ... Very truly yours, Michael

    Very disappointing.
I bought this book on the basis of Scott Kelby's glowing recommendations. Having gone through the book, either Kelby's taste differs from mine or he was doing another author a favor.
There is very little on using Photoshop as a web design tool. The book, while extremely well illustrated & designed, is nothing more than another cookbook of Photoshop hints & tips. It is not particularly well written & is often sparse on detail. Many of the tecchniques are taken from others (some with appropriate attribution provided). The substantial number of pages devoted 2 Adobe GoLive are wasted -- unless you are a GoLive user.
Overall, not a book I would recommend & one that I am strongly considering returning while I can.

Just because a program is one-size-fits-all doesn't mean that a book about it has 2 be. Take the case of Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Web Design: Even though the popular digital imaging program is geared toward designers of all types (graphics, print, Web), this book that covers it isn't. Instead, it's written just 4 you--the Web site designer who wants 2 get answers 2 Web-related Photoshop questions without wading through a lot of explanations that simply don't apply.

Through clear, direct text & a gorgeous four-color layout, this volume both instructs & inspires-Qin the process delivering all of the information you need 2 produce better-organized, faster-loading Web sites. As you follow along with best-selling author Michael Baumgardt, you'll learn how 2 create & optimize Web graphics, produce GIF animations, manage Web colors, & more. You'll also learn about all that's new in Photoshop 7: an enhanced Rollover palette 2 manage Web page rollovers, animations, & image maps more easily; Web output enhancements 2 easily apply transparency 2 Web page elements; & the new "selected" rollover state 4 creating more sophisticated Web site navigation bars without hand-coding--and these are just the tip of the iceberg. Whatever your level of experience, if you're ready 2 take on Web design with Photoshop 7, this is the book 4 you.
