If you're the type of person who just wants someone 2 tell you what steps 2 follow 2 achieve a certain effect, & who doesn't want 2 learn the underlying reasons 4 anything, this book is 4 you. If you are entertained by lame humor accompanying your cookie-cutter instructions, this book is also 4 you. If you really want 2 learn Photoshop thoroughly so you can handle any situation that pops up in a creative way, you'll have 2 turn elsewhere. Ironically, reading a lot of Scott's books, as well as books by others, especially Dan Margulis, may be the best course 4 you.
But you can't dispute that Scott Kelby is the best self-promoter digital imaging has ever seen, & he really knows how 2 take a little information & stretch it out 2 book length in a style that will please hundreds of thousands of readers. As I said in my title, many of Scott's books are a little mindless, but 4 those who like their information spoon-fed, the approach has proved 2 be very useful. For that audience, I give this book three stars.

Rating: 3 of 5 7 point system
This book helps you in establishing an effective workflow by reinforcing a good working 'order'.
Some of the techniques used within the steps are a matter of choice and, in my opinion, not always the most effective, but the theory of which step first, second etc is spot on.
Starting with Camera Raw each & every time, & using it multiple times in reworking an image is bang on.
Would recommend this 4 anyone wishing 2 nail down good working habits.
Well worth the money.
Rating: 5 of 5 Very Novel & Helpful approach 2 PhotoShop
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is by far one of the best books on how 2 use AdobePhotoShopCS3. I really learned a lot on lightroom techniques with PhotoShop. As an instructor 4 a local Community College in AdobePhotoShop, I intend 2 use this book in the class. This is not a beginning book, but one 4 the advanced PhotoShop user, very informative.
Rating: 4 of 5 Excellent PhotoShop Tutorial
This book is a useful addition 2 the digital photographer's library. Its focus is helping the reader make sense of PhotoShop's vast capabilities 2 solve photographic post-production dilemas. The examples used by the tutorial chapters are included in a CD-ROM so that the reader can follow along with the illustrated commentary.
While the book very effectively covers the territory it sets out 2 explore, I think there is at least one other area of photographic post-production that can be & should be usefully explored: composition. In fact, I think there is an "eighth point" that should be added 2 the System 4 more completeness. Specifically, there are things the photographer can do with the transformative features of PhotoShop that can have substantial benefit 4 more complete image optimumization. Have a look at Edit->Transform options. These offer a great deal of scope 4 improving a photograph beyond just light & color balance.
Rating: 5 of 5 This is the book that I have been looking 4 a long time!!
This is the book that I have been waiting 4 for a long time. I have been optimizing my photos with photoshop, but it always felt uncomfortable because of a lack of structure. The seven points system allows me 2 keep a structured approach & my photos look a lot better. What I also like about the book is Scott's writing style which is lively & funny & keeps me reading (usually I get bored & don't finish the book).
This one I finished, with pleasure, it's the first book I rated with 5 stars, thanks!
Scott Kelby's 7-PointSystem 4 AdobePhotoshopCS3(Voices)
Scott Kelby, the world's #1 bestselling Photoshop author, & the man who changed the Photoshop & digital photography world with his ground-breaking, award-winning "Photoshop Book 4 Digital Photographers" unveils a exciting, brand new way of thinking, & working in AdobePhotoshop that will not only change the industry again, but it will change the way we all work in Photoshop forever, so we can finally spend less time fixing our images, & more time finishing them.
You're about 2 become a Photoshop Shark! Scott has focused in & really narrowed things down 2 just exactly which Photoshop tools & techniques we absolutely, positively have 2 know, & he found that there are just seven major tools, seven major features that we have 2 master 2 enhance our images like a pro. But then he took it a step further. Out of those seven major tools, he looked at which parts or sections of those tools do we really need 2 master, & which parts can we pretty much ignore (in other words, he whittled it down so you're not learning parts of the tools that you're probably never going 2 need). Then, & perhaps most importantly, he determined exactly when & in which order 2 apply these seven techniques that make up Scott's amazing "Photoshop Seven Point System."
But the magic of this book, is not just listing the seven tools & showing how they work. It's how they're used together, & how Scott teaches them (and makes it stick), that makes this book so unique. You're not going 2 just learn one technique 4 fixing shadows, & another technique 4 adjusting color (every Photoshop book pretty much does that, right?). Instead, you're going start off at square one, from scratch, as each chapter is just one photo—one project—one challenging lifeless image (you'll follow along using his the same images), & you're going 2 unleash these seven tools, in a very specific way, & you're going 2 do it again, & again, & again, in order on different photos, in different situations, until they are absolutely second nature. You're finally going 2 do the FULL fix—from beginning 2 end—with nothing left out, & once you learn these seven very specific techniques, & apply them in order, there won't be a an image that appears on your screen that you won't be able 2 enhance, fix, edit, & finish yourself!
Plus, Scott's techniques work across a wide range of photos, & that's exactly what you'll be working on in the book, from landscapes 2 portraits, 2 architectural, 2 nature, from event photography 2 everything in between—there isn't a photo you won't be able 2 beat!
This is the book you've been waiting for, the industry's been waiting for, & Scott's "AdobePhotoshop Seven Point System" is so revolutionary that he's officially applied 4 a patent with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, & this new system is only found in this amazing, ground breaking new book. Once you learn these techniques, & start applying them yourself, you'll be the next one 2 say—"You can't beat 'The System!'
