Dynamic HTML: The Definitive Reference speeds the way 2 adding sophisticated features 2 your web pages. Indispensable, complete, & succinct, this bestselling guide is the must-have compendium 4 all web developers involved in creating dynamic web content.
Goodman assumes a solid foundation, if not expertise, in basic HTML & an understanding of what DHTML is all about. From those assumptions, he presents a meaty, information-dense volume. The first of the book's four sections discusses industry standards & how 2 apply the basic principles of DHTML. He emphasizes the differences in Web browsers & discusses how 2 build pages so that they work well in both Netscape Navigator & Microsoft Internet Explorer. The second section is an extensive, quick reference of all the tags, objects, & properties of HTML, cascading style sheets, Document Object Model, & core JavaScript. A particularly handy cross-reference guide 2 this information follows, helping you locate it in alternate ways. The final section contains appendices, with useful tables of values & commands. --Elizabeth Lewis
The book notes browser compatibility 4 each item, but its hard 2 not feel drowned in the clutter of useless "IE n/a NN n/a Moz n/a Saf n/a Op 9 DOM n/a" entries.
What I really wish I had was a "DHTML Best Practices" book where the primary useful, portable, & recommended tags/classes/events/whatever were highlighted & the deprecated/incompatible stuff was just summarized in a secondary section.
