In the hustle & bustle of bringing our new daughter home we hadn't realised we had been given this book 4 our 21 month old son. So, a few months later we found it & we've been reading it most every night since. As a result of reading this book my son now gives his sister a bottle of water in the afternoon (with just a little assistance), brushes her hair in the morning & is constantly telling people he's a bigbrother now. He really related 2 the story & it seemed 2 help him understand a little better what had changed in terms of his role in the family. We're about 2 move on 2 My Big Boy Potty now!!
Rating: 5 of 5 Great Book!
My 3yr old son loved this book. It helped him understand the importance of being a bigbrother. Almost a year later & he still pulls the book off the shelf 2 read. I now buy the book 4 friends who are having babies. Highly recommend!
Rating: 5 of 5 loved it!
I bought this book 4 my almost 4 year old son, soon 2 be a bigbrother. He loves it so much he asks us 2 read it every night. But the best part is that he is now looking forward 2 his baby sister being born or as he put it "out of mommy's tummy" & that he understands that she would not be able 2 play "trucks" with him 4 a while. He proudly announced 2 his preschool class that he was going 2 be a "BigBrother" & that he was going 2 help mommy make the baby "warm & comfy", just like in his book!
Rating: 5 of 5 Great Book 4 a 2 Year Old!
We bought this book 4 my son (2 years) when I was pregnant with our second child, who was born this past May. While I was pregnant, he wasn't interested in the book & gave a defiant "NO!" whenever I tried 2 read it- but once the baby came, it quickly became a favorite. My son has it memorized & will "read" it 2 himself & his baby brother. The book is simple & easy 2 understand but also gives some good guidance that toddlers can understand (such as needing 2 ask Mommy first 2 pick up the baby!). It also focuses on him & not the baby (i.e. "I'm special in a new way- I'm a bigbrother now!"). This book became an instant favorite when my son recently gave the baby a big hug & whispered, "I love you Brady. I'm your bigbrother now".
Rating: 5 of 5 wonderful book, 4 kids of all ages
I bought this book 4 my son, 2 prepare 4 the arrival of his baby sister. He was only 16m when I started reading it 2 him, & almost 2 when his sister ws born. He LOVED this book. he requested it nightly (making my life easier cause I would have read it anyway =)) He was so excited 2 be the BIGbrother by the time his sister arrived, & I really believe this book helped with that. It points out all the great thing tha big kids can do that babies cannot. It also show the care & attention a baby will require, at the same time showing how both the baby & big sibling are special. Even after the birth of my daughter I continued 2 recite the book, when my son would want her 2 eat play ect, I would say "the baby is 2 little 2 walk, 2 little 2 talk 2 little 2 play with toys, 2 little 2 eat pizza & apples & ice cream. " this would satisfy him, & he'd move on. I would certainly buy/recommend this book 2 anyone exspecting another child.
The author/artist creators of How I Was Adopted present this child's-eye view of family life, deftly describing the joy of welcoming a new sibling into the family. A companion volume 2 I'm a Big Sister.
