Admittedly I'm not a computer geek. However, I am conversant with most Microsoft & some Adobe programs. I purchased a copy of InDesign the other day & ordered a copy of this book 2 help me jump start use of the program. It's been quite a letdown. Exercises are difficult 2 follow, directions are omitted (apparently because they were covered in earlier chapters), & consequently I'm finding this 2 be a rather poor teaching tool 4 the novice. If you are at that position on the learning curve, I suggest you look 4 another reference. Frankly, the help tab on InDesign is frequently of more assistance.
Rating: 5 of 5 Most helpful book!
This book is the best book if you want 2 learn InDesignCS3 thoroughly. Its written so anyone can learn! Its written by a smart woman who understands how students & at home learners need 2 learn. I love how the chapters are broken up & the projects provided are integrated well with the chapters. I found this text very helpful while learning Ms.Terry's course, I think this book is so well written because she's such a great teacher with so much experience & she knows what she's talking about. There are a lot of authors out there that write a book just 2 make money, but Ms.Terry wrote the book because she enjoys sharing her knowledge of the program & teaching others easy ways 2 use it. If you want an InDesign book that's easy 2 learn & written by an author that knows what she's talking about this is the best one 2 choose.

This book is an invaluable resource 4 all knowledge levels. Although it's meant 4 a classroom, there are a lot of very informative lessons that can help improve productivity. With all of Terry's real world knowledge & respect 4 printers & typography, your local printer will notice a difference in your files & thank you 4 a worry-free print job. Terry's style of writing is very easy 2 follow. ExploringInDesignCS3 is very memorable & I would recommend it 2 any designer that is looking 2 boost their knowledge of this wonderful Adobe software.
Rating: 5 of 5 Excellent resource!
I had never used Adobe InDesign before I purchased this book. I found the book 2 be extremely helpful in my learning process 4 this program. It's an excellent learning resource! I plan on keeping this book as a reference 4 all of the InDesign functions that I've learned.
Rating: 5 of 5 This book is very innovating 4 InDesign beginners, even users!
Their are a lot of horribly written software textbooks where it gets confusing & it's hard 2 read. This book is so clear & easy 2 understand that it unbeliveable that it's about InDesign! I give it five stars not only because the author is my teacher but because it deserves it!
In the world of design, projects don't come with directions. The "recipe book" approach used by most software books does little 2 prepare designers 4 the demands of a highly competitive industry. ExploringInDesignCS3 takes a different approach. With an emphasis on typography & critical thinking, ExploringInDesignCS3 transforms the novice into a professional who is able 2 use the software while applying industry-standard design principles. In addition 2 using the new features of Adobe InDesignCS3, users learn 2 identify each project's challenges & 2 strategize the best production sequence. Chapters & projects are carefully organized 2 move learners from basic operations 2 creating complex documents. Each chapter builds upon the skills presented in the previous chapter. As in industry, the emphasis throughout is on technical accuracy & productivity.
