Love Marvel vs. Capcom 2? You'll love this game too!
Pros:

- Fast paced
- Flashy super moves
- 2 characters per team, 3rd characters acts as assist only
- The team hyper moves are actually a bit better than in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in my opinion.
- Combo system allows 4 many consecutive hits
- Colorful levels; more comic book looking than Marvel vs. Capcom 2
- 6 different characters 2 unlock
- Great cast of characters
- Will keep you entertained 4 hours, day, weeks, & possibly even months.
- Two player mode will keep you entertained 4 years!
- The Dreamcast version of this game is much better than the PlayStation version. They removed tag team fighting from the PlayStation version due 2 its memory limitation. That takes a lot of fun out of the game.

Cons:

- If any, it would be 4 there 2 be more characters. Considering when it was released, it does have a very large character line-up.

Fun & Fast Gameplay!!
You pick from 15 characters

Ryu,Strider,Mega Man,Zangief,Morrigan,Captain Commando, Captain America
Spider Man,Venom,Jin,Hulk,Wolverine,Chun Li,Gambit,War Machine

Onslaught is the boss in this game

Akuma,Ken & Onslaught are playable with a code

This game is fun & has hyper fast gameplay. The game has 15 characters which is not that much, but it is made up in fast, nice gameplay. Some people whine about the graphics & say its "bad" & compare it 2 Tekken, those games are not in the same category. The 2d games are drawn & 3d games are polygon based graphics they are different types of things. The Dreamcast joystick is no longer made, but still want 2 play the game?, I got a solution, get a Playstation 1/2 adapter & buy a ps2 or Psone joystick & then have fun just like the Arcade.

I recommend this game 2 people who like the other cross over games like X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. This version is the best because its arcade perfect & its 2 pick up & play when you feel like fighting your heroes.

Pros: Fast gameplay, Great graphics, awesome characters, fun 2 play, pull off huge combos, when using the arcade stick enhances gameplay

Cons: not enough characters, dreamcast controller not good 4 this game, 2d graphics not 4 everyone

Not a picture perfect port.
While this is the only good port 2 any of the Marvel vs. game prior 2 MVC2, this game still has a few problems in comparision 2 just playing a CPS2 ROM.

First off, the sound is god awful. Everything from this game sounds like it's coming from a small FM Radio with nearly dead batteries from the other end of a long tunnel. It's that bad. Not 2 mention that there are a few sound glitches where some of the sound effects don't even play 4 a few moments. So, 4 example, you periodically won't hear Ryu yell, "Hadoken" 4 a short period of time. But the sound doesn't make the game, the controls do. And that's my next gripe.

Unless you are on an Aracde Stick, you'll have a harder time playing this game then you would on a keyboard. Not only does this game not support the analog stick, but the control pad isn't very responsive at all. And no, it's not the controller. I've played KOF 98 & 99, Street Fighter 3: Double Impact, & Soul Calibur 1 all on the same controller. And I haven't had nearly as many problems with the controls on those games as I've had here. Not 2 mention, you have shoulder buttons 4 the FP & FK. In MVC2, you won't mind shoulder buttons because that game has a 4 button layout with FP & FK used almost souly 4 calling the helpers. MVC1 still has the 6 button layout as its other Capcom brothers. Meaning a standard Dreamcast controller isn't very suitable 4 a fast paced game such as this. Every nanosecond counts in this game & you can't have sluggish shoulder buttons slowing you down. Street Fighter 3 & Alpha can get away with it, but not this game. In short, get a Mad Catz Dreampad or some sort of Aracde Stick if you're going 2 get this game.

Single player also gets rather dull pretty quickly. This game is meant 4 competition as far as I'm concerned. Casual players will enjoy this game, but the computer is either very easy or very hard & there isn't much middle ground.

On the plus end, the game itself is completely intact from the CPS2 version. And it even has the added Onslaught Mode after you unlock all the hidden fighters. It also has a 4 player tag battle mode as well. And that is probably the main reason 2 get this game. I, myself, play 4 player tag battle with MAME on Kaillera all the time & I have a blast. But 4 those of you that don't believe in emulation & have 3 friends around, this is just as good.

All in all, this is one of those party games that's good 4 playing at an Anime/Video Game convention, 4 instance. And while most people sing praises about MVC2, MVC1 is a very solid & competitive game. The characters are quite unbalanced. But it doesn't seem 2 hinder the game in the least bit. Sans the small rooster of characters, this can be considered supieror 2 MVC2 in certain ways. Pick it up if you have some friends around. You'll have a blast.

You can use ONSLAUGHT as a selectable character
There are secret ways 2 unlock alternate versions of some of the characters, & even unlock Onslaught. You'll have 2 beat the game using certain techniques. In order 2 beat the game very easily, I personally found it best 2 use Ryu & Venom on Easy mode. Use them 2 beat the game multiple times & you'll be able 2 unlock all of the secret characters.

PROS:
1) The vibration feedback is extremely sensitive !!! You feel every bump & hit that you give your opponent.
2) There is an Easy mode, which strangely is not in MvC part 2. The Easy mode allows you 2 use Chun Li's lighting fast kicks.
3) There are a few super moves that are not in MvC part 2. Like Chun Li's has four supers in this game, while she has only three in part 2.

CONS:
1) There is a little slow-down with a few characters like War Machine & Strider. These characters move a lot faster in MvC part 2.
2) You can not select the same person twice. In MvC part 2, you are allowed 2 select the same person so you may have a team of three Akumas or whomever else.

Overall, it's a great game, & I urge you 2 buy it even if you already own MvC part 2. I own both games & love them equally.

Don't pass up an oppertunaty like this!!
Intro:
Ok, who would pass up an oppertunaty like this, unless of course you have the chance 2 buy the 2nd one, better, but yet not as valuable as the first, considering they DON'T MAKE THE FIRST MARVEL VS. CAPCOM ANY MORE! This game has crisp anamation, smooth gameplay, CRISTAL CLEAR sound & an awsome soundtrack that pumps you up & gets you in the mood 4 fighting(In the game anyway). Don't Pass up this golden oppertunity, get it if you can find it! First one also available 4 the Sony Playstation, & 2nd one also 4 the Sega DreamCast & Sony Playstation 2, & soon 4 Microsoft X-Box, & Nintendo Gamecube!

SCORE: 4-5
(The Character Roster could have included:

Dan
Dark Sakura
Dhalsim
Juggernaut
Magneto
M.Bison
Mephisto
Nash
Omega Red
Rogue
Sabretooth
Sakura
Shadow
Shuma Gorath
Storm
U.S.Agent
Ok, they did include a few of them, but only as helpers, if they made them as default playable characters, this game would have been way more awesome than it already is, & that would totaly rule!)

Gameplay:
The gameplay is based on how fast & fun the game has, & how much slowdown the game experiences during play.
The gameplay is lighting fast with absolutly no slowdown when I play it unless it is so little & the game is so fast paced that it's not noticeable, & that just makes the game even better. The game is also ultimate fun especially with playing with the younger kids, because the look on their face is priceless & hillarios when you pull off a huge combo with a great character, like Mega-Man 4 example.
SCORE: 5-5

SOUND:
Sound score is based upon voice overs, SFX, & music.
The music 1st of all is awesome, they use origonal music from origonal games, it starts off with the P1's 1st Character music, like if P1's 1st character is Mega-Man, then it starts off with Mega-Mans Music Used in the game, then after a character is killed the next character 2 pop up has his/her music played, like if Mega-Man is K.O.ed then the 2nd characters music 4 that team plays. The SFX rule, they are so good, thats all there is 2 say. The voice overs are perfect in every way & couldn't be any more precice 2 the characters.
SCORE: 5-5

GRAPHICS: The graphics in this game are so beautiful & unbelievably awesome looking, that you can't even believe why they didn't do this in the earlier vs. games. If the graphics look this good on the 1st 4 Dreamcast then they have 2 look way better on the 2nd 4 the Dreamcast, & they do. I definetly have 2 give the graphics.
SCORE: 5-5

OVERALL: This is not an average, this is what I think about the whole game, as a...whole game, anyway.
SCORE: 5-5
Get the game, unless you can't find it, then get the 2nd one!

Who would win in a fight: the Incredible Hulk or Wolverine? What if Street Fighter's Ryu teamed up with Hulk, & Chun Li had Wolverine's back? Speculate no more as Marvel pits its comic book heroes against Capcom's video game stars in Marvel vs. Capcom.

All your favorite Marvel characters are available, each one a joy 2 play. The Hulk is huge, powerful, & slow, while Spider-Man leaps & web-slings around the arena, attacking with outrageous handsprings, flips, & lunging punches. Capcom's familiar Street Fighter heroes, as well as a few other heroes such as Mega Man, round out the character selection. Some of the lesser-known characters from both franchises make special appearances. It's pretty funny when Arthur from the old game Ghosts N' Goblins jumps onscreen 2 throw lances at Captain America. Each of the battles is a two-on-two tag-team match. Players can swap characters in the middle of a fight, & clever players quickly discover how 2 launch devastating double-team attacks on the opponent. Up 2 four people can play.

If Marvel vs. Capcom has a fault, it's super speed. The action is fast--really fast--and can quickly overwhelm a player who is used 2 the feint-and-strike gameplay of more sophisticated 3-D fighting games. In fact, gamer novices may be able 2 beat video game veterans by resorting 2 the old "randomly mash every button as fast as you can" trick. Aside from this, the game is a triumph in 2-D fighting. --Mike Fehlauer

Pros:

  • Great cast of characters
  • Tests superiority of superheroes
  • Devastating tag-team moves
  • Faithful hero animations
Cons:
  • Cramped fighting space
  • Difficult, hyper-speed gameplay
