Is it possible that this system of stars actually is being corrupted by rival companies' employees that put one star 2 every product of this company (even doing copy/paste with their reviews)?
I mean, I own a lot of harddrives (Seagate, Toshiba, WD, Fujitsu, Maxtor), some of them have more than 13 years, & none of them have crashed or nothing alike... Well, except one that took a fall from my hands.
I'm kinda suspicious, because with this rate of supposedly sucky harddrives (and the horrible publicity it carries), WD should have gone broke years ago.
Rating: 1 of 5 Own 4 of them. 3 have failed
In over 20 years of buying drives from every manufacturer on the planet, these drives & this company are the worst I have ever seen. I bought 4 of them long time ago, & 2 failed in the first year. Awful drives, lame company. I am a Seagate man now (again) & I'm quite happy :)
Rating: 1 of 5 Uggh
I bought this drive in an apparently vain attempt 2 add some storage 2 my aging Athlon 700 box which has been chugging away on a Quantum Fireball 20G drive 4 some 8 years now. Well I got the bios 2 detect it, I got partition magic 7.0 2 partition it. First sign of trouble, I try 2 copy the c: partition over. Fails. Ok, partition magic is sometimes trouble. I re-partition it. Decide alright, I"ll move some files over, free up some disk space & try again. YEEHA success, or so I thought. I go ahead & move files over 2 the drive, stuff I've recently done, nothing I can't duplicate, but stuff I didn't want 2 have 2 do the work over again, (ripping vinyl), If you know vinyl records, it's best not 2 play them too much. So ok, that's alright. I resize the partition, attempt 2 copy over the boot partition again, & BANG computer freezes, I have 2 force shutdown, & waddaya know DATA GONE!
Going forward, I think, ok that was probably my fault, should have been safer about moving data around so cavalierly. So, partition again, thinking I'd install windows on it fresh, setup freezes. OK ONE MORE TIME! Partition as storage only, that worked once. Ok looking good, try 2 copy a large file, freeze, try 2 copy same large file 2 my existing drive, works, large file 2 new drive once again..... you guessed it my friends.
NEVER BUY WD DRIVES!
Rating: 1 of 5 I didn't order it.
I ordered a 2.5" WD2500BEVS drive on August 20. The seller, D S Miller, shipped this instead. I am still waiting 4 them 2 take it back.
Rating: 5 of 5 It keeps going & going & going...............
Im normally pretty hard on my harddrives, & this one has past the test of time. On average with me it takes about 6 months 2 destroy a harddrive (maxtor). Went with WesternDigital & its still going strong after 18.
