Great Game For the Non-Gamer & Gamer Alike
I never use my Playstation 2 at home anymore, so I hooked this up 2 the TV in the lounge at work. It became wildly popular very quickly, because anyone can pick up the controller & learn how 2 play in about a minute. It's also a cheerily colorful & light-hearted distraction in a busy office. Even though only one person can play at a time, people stop in 4 a few minutes 2 watch & decompress. When the Playstation was still at home & in regular use, it was great 4 casual weekday gatherings at home. A very social game.

The ability 2 pick up the control & be told in less than a minute how 2 play is the same draw that has made the Wii wildly popular.

Katamari Damacy
I love this game! I'm 51 & played it when it first came out after buying it 4 my son. We've all aged & we still play it. I think it's great 4 ages 5 2 95! I only wish there were more family friendly games like this available.

We are moved 2 tears by this game!
This was my first PS2 game. I had seen some friends play it at college, & I thought it looked fun. I found it in a bargain bin 4 $9, & decided it would be a good starting point 4 console gaming. The opening screen is full of color, dancing animals, & probably hallucinogenics. The theme song is playing, & it really gets you into the mood 2 roll up the world!

Learning the controls was difficult as I had never used the analog sticks before. However, the tutorials in the beginning were very helpful. Once I got used 2 rolling, I couldn't wait 2 get 2 the levels!

There are four types of levels:
1) Make a Star. You have a time limit & a size goal. Roll up everything you can!
2) Constellations "Collect as many as you can". In these levels, you have 2 roll up as many of one type of item as you can. For example, 2 make Virgo, you have 2 roll up as many "maidens" (girls) as you can. You can roll up other objects 2 increase the diameter of the katamari, but you are judged by the count of that one category.
3) Constellations "Find the biggest". In order 2 make Ursa Major & Taurus, you have 2 roll up the biggest bear or cow you can. The first item of this category that you pick up will end the level. You will be judged on the size of that object. But beware! Accidentally roll over that teddy bear or that milk container, & it's all over. I found these levels 2 be frustrating.
4) North Star. Get the katamari as close 2 10 meters as possible, without a size indicator.

The music is the best part of the game. The songs create a "must roll" feeling, & they're upbeat.

The King of All Cosmos says some wonderful things, especially if you fail a level. Don't skip his dialog the first time! And beware, you will start 2 speak in the royal "We".

There are three levels in which you can unlock "Eternal" mode. "Eternal mode" lets you roll around the level with no time limit! It's a great way 2 teach someone how 2 play & let them get used 2 the controls without the threat of failure. These levels are Make a Star 4, 8, & 10 (Make the Moon). To unlock this mode, you have 2 create a very large katamari. Keep trying!

You can also achieve "comets" by reaching the goal very quickly. I haven't found any reward 4 getting these comets, but it makes you feel good.

This game will make you smile. Whether it's the thrill of rolling up your opponent in two-player mode, or simply hearing the satisfying "Meow" when you roll up your first cat, the happiness cannot be avoided. If you have been suffering from self-inflicted wrist injury a la Guitar Hero or Rock Band, this is the cure!

Katamari Damacy is a silly, colorful & occasionally hysterical game that's become a hit in Japan. Now it's arrived here & it's unusual gameplay & one-of-a-kind design will make gamers laugh & play 4 hours! When the King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys the stars in the sky, he orders his pint-sized princely son, 2 put the twinkle back in the heavens. He decides 2 do this by rolling everything & anything on earth into clumps, so he can replace what's missing in space.
