This enclosure is very nice looking. It was a little tricky 2 get together, but my 500GB drive runs surprising cool. I am happy with the enclosure & might buy another.

Easy 2 install with prior reviews regarding cables needing 2 be moved & compressed when adding 2 case. Up & running in less than 15 minutes. No problem with heat buildup listed in other reviews. Well worth the money & it looks sharp in blue.

It was a snap 2 get hooked up & XP recognized the drive automatically. Once installed, my drive is in there securely & the whole thing feels very sturdy. The color is not quite as deep as I thought, but it is still pretty sleek-looking & shiny, plus there is an electric blue LED on the front panel that blinks when the drive is working.

As far as temperature goes, I've been really impressed so far. I ran my drive overnight & another time while I was away at work, & both times the case was just barely warm 2 the touch, not hot at all. My laptop gets hotter, by far.

All in all, a great buy! I highly recommend.

I pulled an older Maxtor 80 gig hard drive from an old desktop PC taking up space in my home office. Within minutes I had it installed in the Hard Drive enclosure, plugged into an electric outlet & the USB port of my laptop. I'm running Vista SP1 64 bit, which recogonized it immediately & gave me no fits of rage. After a re-format 2 rid the drive of old un-needed programs & documents, I was moving files. No case issues as some have talked about, no excessive heat, just pure ease of use. The case it's self is as I expected it 2 be & still have not cracked open the manual or driver disk. Life is good.

I bought this Vantec hard drive enclosure shortly after the motherboard on our old XP tower failed. I wanted an economical way 2 get 2 the data on the undamaged hard drive. Set-up was extremely easy, you just slide the case open (watch out 4 the LED connector, which might be connected, mine was not), connect the hard drive, slide the case closed again & screw it shut. Hook in your power cord & your USB cable & you're ready 2 go. I was accessing the data on my old hard drive within minutes of opening the box. This unit works great with Vista, as it loads all of the drivers 4 you, you won't even need 2 load the driver CD. Heat hasn't been a problem yet, the aluminum case does a good job of dissipating the warmth generated by the hard drive's operation. Comes with a nice little stand & the blue color really stands out.

Update: Works great with the Mac OS as well. Hooked this baby up 2 my iMac & it recognized the drive immediately.
