Verbatim Store 'n' Go USB Flash Drive - 2GB (95183)

I like the thinness - fits most spaces & computers. Red color is a little jarring. I have not tried password protection. Works great with Macs & PCs.

I bought a Verbatim because I've been using their products since the days of the 5 1/4" diskettes, & theirs were the best on the market. This USB drive did not disappoint me at all! I got a lot of memory 4 the price, & the password protection works like a charm. I set up 100 MB of protected space in about 1 minute. Only one tiny problem with the PDF instructions--when setting up the protected area, it doesn't tell you which end of the sliding scale is 4 open area, & which is 4 protected. Here's the answer: Drag down a little way 2 create a small protected area. If you drag 2 the bottom, the entire drive will be protected. You can reset the protected area size, but it reformats the drive every time you do that--so get it right BEFORE you add files!

I bought the 1G version of this drive a couple of months ago. When I saw the 2G version go on sale, I bought it right away. I only have good things 2 say. It's fast, reliable, comes with the nicest lanyard I've seen with USB drives, works with multiple operating systems, doesn't come preloaded with the overrated overhyped U3 launchpad. Not too crazy about the bright red color, but I figure I can always paint it if I really hate it...

I haven't tried the encryption feature but Vista recognizes this USB Drive by name. One reason I purchased this is that I found it on a list of Vista compatible devices. However I do have another older USB drive & that works fine too.

This is my first experience with a password protected USB drive, so I am not sure how it compares with other brands.
This Verbatim drive is very slim & fits very well in very cramped spaces behind the computer. No problems using in different computers. It comes preinstalled with VSafe-100, a program that allows you 2 partition your drive into public & private (password protected) zones. Beware that you have 2 decide this partition in advance, because any reformatting will erase everything you have in the drive. It gives you ample warning, though. The public zone works very well. Transfer of documents from main computer 2 USB drive occurs very fast.
A few drawbacks: You cannot log into the private zone if you have a document open from the public zone. Essentially you cannot access both zones at the same time (I guess that is a safety feature). I felt that in the private zone, it is much slower. Also when switching between private & public zone, it takes a while, so be patient.
I love the size (2GB) which allows me 2 carry huge files with me, & I love the slim, red design as well.
