What has happened 2 McAfee</strong>?
I have been a satisfied customer of McAfee</strong> VirusScan</strong> 4 several years. However, an update around the middle of 2006 completely fouled up my computer. I took advice from their technical helpline, but this did not cure the problem. I finally resorted 2 a complete uninstall & replacement with another company. I am not a computer expert, & found it very disconcerting 2 have my computer disrupted in this manner by a company which is claiming 2 safeguard my on-line interests. To add insult 2 injury, my telephoned cancellation of annual renewal was not correctly actioned, resulting in a series of renewal confirmation invoices being e-mailed 2 me. No good enough, McAfee</strong>!

Good software
I'm not sure about all the bad reviews. I've used McAfee</strong> 4 years & never had any problems. I bought the bundle recently 4 $30 with a $30 mail in rebate, so the software was free! I like the user-friendly interface of virus scan & firewall. Everything is there 4 you & seems 2 catch all of the bugs (I hope).

McAfee</strong> VirusScan</strong>
Even though I prefer Norton Symantec products, my new laptop already had McAfee</strong> on it & needed updating. I decided 2 stay with McAfee</strong> 4 two reasons: problems in the past switching from McAfee</strong> 2 Symantec & McAfee</strong>'s cost was lower. Installation was easy, but I'm still getting messages from McAfee</strong> telling me that my (original) software subscription had expired.

2006 VirusScan</strong>/Firewall Bundle
Seems 2 work fairly quietly (good), but tends 2 slow the startup process. Having used McAfee</strong> products in the past, I expect 2 be fairly satisfied with its performance at keeping viruses off of my computer.

OOPS ! Watch out 4 this latest version. BAD BAD
I did the ol' regular online update 2 my security center & it totally messed up so many things on my home computer. Web surfing has slowed 2 a crawl & some sites will not load at ALL. Just sits there waiting & waiting. This is a half baked program that takes over your computer & you will spend hours configuring it 2 just be able 2 go online & do email at a reasonable pace. Then it reverts back 2 old settings when you resart & you go thru it all again. Email is slow & several messages just do not get sent at all. It is an extremely frustrating product. It appears 2 be this most recent version which is either 10 or 11, I'm not sure---sorry, but the point is that I am done with McAfee</strong> products because they will not even allow you 2 go back 2 the previous version. If you think I am the only one with this problem, do a search---and you will see. I think this is a fairly new phenomenon in the last couple of months or so. I ended up uninstalling the whole thing & going with a free program as a stopgap measure 4 now. For reference, I run windows XP on that computer.
