Sony Vegas Movie Studio + DVD

When I looked this over very carefully I ascertained that I was not good enough on the computer 2 figure this out. I can do most anything I want on my computer but this was too technical.

Once I learned how 2 use the product, it worked great. You may want 2 have some knowledge of editing software before you use this product. I had done some editing in High School so I had a little knowledge 2 start with. This software has a lot of features & effects. I have no idea how 2 use them all, but my movies come out fine.

Unfortunately, this program does not work at all if you're trying 2 use movies taken on a digital still camera, because the movie format used on still cameras - Motion JPEG - is not recognized on this program, even though it is recognized on most other video editing programs. I was told by Sony 2 download the free "CODEC" file available online 2 solve that problem, which I did, but 2 no avail. It still doesn't work. Of course, Sony doesn't warn you about this problem when you buy the software.

This software is 2 complicated 4 the average DV camcorder owner. After reading the full manual all I could produce on DVD was sound no video. I spend weeks reading & following the manual insturctions (poorly written) waisted 20 DVD discs. You need 2 be an experienced professional who understands how 2 edit time lines & video tracks & markers. I gave up I deleted it from my computer & the software sits in the box. This is not the software 2 buy if you only want 2 put your vacation videos form a DV camcorder onto a DVD. Try using Ulead Movie Factory 5 4 slower computers or Movie Factory 6 4 faster computers, it is easy 2 use & understand.

I was very surprised 2 read the great reviews of this software. The software package was marketed 2 me as a basic, user-friendly media editing & DVD-making tool. I find few aspects that are user friendly, & quite frankly, feel this software is a complete rip-off if you just want basic editing functions (i.e. rotate video). I can achieve similiar level of editing that I need on my Sonic DVD software, which came free with my computer.

I purchased this software about a month ago, & have yet 2 be able 2 successfully make a DVD. It has been a time-consuming, frustrating process. Before buying the video, I did my research - on-line, even visiting a Sony store (I have a Sony Handcam). There were only 2 things I needed 2 achieve with the software - rotate video & add music 2 the background - additional editing features would be welcomed, but not necessary. Although the Sony representative told me that I would be unable 2 rotate the video with the software (which I now know is untrue), I decided 2 purchase it anyways.

Since I purchased the product, I have spent hours going through the tutorial as well as read through the 400+ page manual. There is definitely a steep learning curve. The terminology (event vs. marker vs. chapter) is difficult 2 get a handle on. After editing the video, including adding music in the background, the resulting rendered file only provides one audio track. I have attempted 2 fix by adding an audio track in the DVD Architect, only 4 the software 2 tell me that I needed the "full-version", which I would need 2 purchase. Why does a software package allow you 2 add audio tracks 2 turn around & tell you that if you want it on the DVD, you have 2 buy additional software? Hopefully there is a function in the software that I just haven't found yet that will burn a DVD with all desired audio. I will prob find it in 2 days - like I said, steep learning curve.

This software package should not be geared toward the average person who wants 2 compile home videos. Until now, I was a huge fan of Sony - now I'm not so sure.
