When ever you read customer reviews of drives you will see two types. Those who couldn't get it 2 work & of course hate it, & those who got it 2 work & like it. I'm in the later. I bought it as I have an older Barracudadrive that's been working without issues 4 a couple of years now & needed more storage 4 media files. While Seagate is not Linux friendly it was easy 2 setup with my Mepis distro.
Rating: 1 of 5 Big drive Big Problems
Some years ago, about 10 years, i got a seagatedrive, a medallist series hd with 1GB capacity (top of the line at that time); which died about two months after i first installed it on my computer. Now i bought this "big top of the line" hard disk on april 3rd & used it as a storage drive attached 2 an external usb case (never moved it from my desk) & now after just 1256 hours of use (around 53 days) it died. When i bought this drive last april, as a birthday gift 4 myself, i though that seagate had solved all the problems they had with those all drives they sold in the time the joined conner, but i see that i was wrong. The drives are having problems... i ran the seatools utility from seagete website & the tool tells that the drive has more than 99 errors & cant continue checking it. Now Windows is unable 2 access the drive & im afraid i lost about 600GB of that i had on it.
With this i want 2 tell you that you have 2 stay away from seagatedrives, they really suck, these are the worst drives you can find around, I never had these problems with Western Digital, Maxtor or Hitachi Hard disks. So if you want 2 get a new harddrive go 4 even Western digital or Hitachi, & avoid seagate or maxtor (seagate bought them)
Now i have 2 send the disk back 2 seagate 4 replacement, the only good part here is that drive has 5 years warranty, but i would prefer a non faulty drive with just 6 months warranty (nobody wants 2 lose data)
Anyway, i would like 2 give Seagate & specially this drive a negative star (but i have 2 give them 1 star cause there are no negative)
Ohh i forgot 2 say if you want seagate 2 recover your data, you have 2 pay around 1400 bucks 4 the "service". Maybe they make their drives faulty 2 make you pay 4 the recovery.

Rating: 5 of 5 Great Drive
So far I'm very pleased with this new Seagatedrive. This is the third Seagatedrive I've purchased recently & each one has installed without a single glitch.
The main reason 4 this is the CD/Software that comes with each drive called DiskWizard. This program will setup your drive 4 you, & then mirror your current drive including Operating System or you can install it as a second drive. No more fdisk, format, etc., DiskWizard does all of this 4 you. (Check Windows version compatibility)
If you are replacing a drive, after running DiskWizard, set the jumper (if not using CS (Cable Select) 2 Master, remove your old drive, turn the PC on & it boots right up. Truly painless.
This drive has performed very well, is fast, & has a high capacity 4 storing massive amounts of photos, movies, & mp3's.
The drive seems 2 be well designed & quality is outstanding.
Rating: 5 of 5 Lives up 2 its name.
Although this drive was intended 4 server applications, I have found that it works very well in my desk top with very good seek times. It's a great drive, dropped in & hooked up with no headaches what so ever.
