Ok. I love this camera. I didn't order it online, but I kind of feel morally obligated 2 review it on here after my experiences with it. It takes amazing pictures. There is a macro mode where you can take incredible close up pics of anything (food looks amazing). Video is pretty good, but just the quality of the pictures is what makes me love it. Ok, now 2 why i am reviewing this. I took my camera when i went fishing with my buddy, & forgot it sitting on a rock in the middle of the woods overnight. There was a rain storm that lasted a good amount of the night. Went back the next day 2 find it. Absolutely fine. Everything worked perfectly as before. Test #2: about a year later, last week, my mom decided 2 do my wash & washed a certain pair of jeans that had my olympusfe-230camera in it. This time: DEAD. I aired it out, took the battery out, recharged it, tried 2 take the screws out 2 take it apart, couldn't do that, so i put it back together & ordered a new camera. The new one comes, & I am comparing the two & as I hit the power button on the old one, BAM! It turns on! The pictures are a little bit lighter, but nothing a basic photo editing program can't fix. This thing is a ROCK. I would suggest it 2 anyone looking 4 a standard digitalcamera that takes amazing pics.
Rating: 1 of 5 Ultra compact, but poor quality
Like many of the people who gave this camera poor reviews, I always had trouble with blurry photos using this camera. I've had the camera 4 about a year & I've never been impressed by it. I kept it around because it was tiny (the size is really remarkable) & could easily be taken anywhere. I got in the habit of taking multiple photos of a subject using various settings because I never quite knew how they would turn out. Then I would sift through them on my computer looking 4 decent ones.
The camera is also fairly slow, due 2 the use of xD memory cards, I suspect. I had a 2GB card, which was plenty of storage space, but unfortunately caused the camera processor 2 struggle.
Recently, the auto-focus stopped working, rendering the camera useless. I think it's a mechanical problem with the lens. I'm actully pretty happy that I can throw this thing away & get compact camera I can actually enjoy.
Rating: 1 of 5 Disappointed
I thought 4 a long time that it was just me... that I took awful shots. I tried my best, different settings, etc, but the photos just came out dull, blurry, & lacking in color. I eventually bought a Canon powershot SD1100 & was truly amazed at the huge difference in photos! I'm not so bad after all. :) So bottomline is, you're better off saving your money 4 another camera.
Rating: 3 of 5 Decent 1st Camera
I got this camera as a present 4 junior prom, & it went belly-up just in time 4 senior prom. It was a good camera 2 start on, easy 2 use & took good photos. I loved the macro shots & video, but was very dissappointed when it broke 4 no reason. The zoom is now out of whack, & I don't plan on buying another one.
Rating: 5 of 5 My daughter loves it!
I bought this camera 4 my daughter. She wanted a small camera that could be easily carried with her & this is just the thing. It takes good pictures & is the envy of the family (I use a much fancier digital SLR, but it is far too large 4 taking 2 every event where a picture opportunity arises -- with a large camera, you become a photographer documenting the event & don't enjoy the event as much --- a tail wagging the dog situaion.).
Stay in style with this super slim, sleek & full-metal body that is so thin, you can fashionably fit it in your pocket & never miss a photo opportunity. The FE-230's high-resolution CCD delivers superior image quality 4 larger prints without sacrificing detail. Prevent & correct blurry images without the use of a computer. The large, bright LCD provides easy shooting & sharing your images. Keep 9 of your favorite images with you 2 share with friends & family anytime while using a minimal amount of memory.
