Turn on, insert memory card (it takes a lot of different types), press "copy" & in a very short time the contents of the memory card are copied 2 the built in hard drive (with a different directory 4 each). There is enough space that I expect that I'll rarely have 2 delete anything. It's great if you use more than one camera, or have multiple people taking pictures of an event.
This drive has it's own power adaptor & is NOT USB POWERED. Although it attaches (as an external hard drive) 2 a computer via USB, leaving it attached 4 any length of time will run the battery down so you need 2 plug in the power adaptor if you are going 2 leave it attached 2 a computer. Otherwise, it can be used like any external hard drive. Reading pictures from the drive is much faster than reading directly from memory cards, & since it appears as a hard drive, it's a great way 2 sneak photos past programs (like Iphoto) which get grabby about memory cards.

Rating: 4 of 5 Handy but pricey.
It is a great device 4 short trips 2 parks & remote area where Internet service is not available. A laptop may be a bit too heavy 2 carry around.
