The CanonPowerShotSD950IS is the greatest point-and-shoot digitalcamera that I have ever used. Some notable points:
=> 12 megapixels is not necessary 4 printing standard 3x5 snapshots, but there are an increasing number of companies (such as ShutterFly) which create projects such as calendars storybooks from your prints. The extra megapixels definitely come in handy when doing projects like these.
=> The titanium shell is not a gimmick! I dropped this camera off a pickup truck & it landed on a concrete road. I thought it would be busted 4 sure, but it wasn't even scratched!
=> Image stabilization is not a gimmick! In my experiments, image stabilization is crucial 4 low-light photography because it allows me 2 quarter my shutter speed & take clear pictures with 75% less light.
=> I needed 2 perform warranty repairs because a black spot was appearing in all of my photos. I'm unsure if it had anything 2 do with the incident described above. Despite the fact that the damage may have been due 2 dropping & the serial number had rubbed off, Canon replaced the optics & sent it back 2 me 4 no charge. The repair experience was pleasant & I will remember this when I buy my next camera.
=> With 12 megapixels, digitalcameras are now capturing as much detail as film cameras. My experiments revealed that the amount of detail in the images is comparable 2 200 speed APS film or 400 speed 35mm film.
=> Although daytime images look great, pictures taken in low-light conditions suffer. If you're in flash range, the flash is accurately exposed (unlike a Sony digitalcamera that I used), but flash or no flash, focusing in the dark is slow & inaccurate. This will be a problem with any compact digitalcamera.
=> Movies are acceptable, but the files are very large because they lack the MPEG compression capabilities of Sony cameras. It is difficult 2 compress the files later because of the MJPEG compression previously applied. This is something 4 YouTube addicts 2 keep in mind -- this camera is not a camcorder.
Rating: 4 of 5 Flawless Camera
I have had many pro cameras 4 many years. I wanted the ease of a point & shoot camera but with superior optics & built in software 2 compensate 4 less than perfect lighting conditions. The camera works very well, & I did not have 2 use any of the extra technology that the camera comes with. As with all fine cameras do not drop or sit on the camera, & buy & use the plastic film LCD screen protector 2 Keep the LCD from being scratched or nicked.
Rating: 5 of 5 Power Shot SD950
The picture quality is excellent. You have 2 remove the battery 4 charging just something I have 2 get used to. I have no complaints. Amazon was easy 2 deal with & shipping was fast 2 Hawaii.
I previously had a Sony Cyber-shot that I was very happy with easy 2 carry & very good pictures. But the light sensor went out at 2 + years the 5 year warranty turned out 2 be worthless. We have two other Canon Power Shots & they have been excellent. Sony lost my business & Canon has it.
Rating: 5 of 5 Great
Great pictures & features. It's able 2 get great pictures at night, indoor or outdoors. easy 2 use. I'm very satisfy with my camara.
Rating: 5 of 5 The best digitalcamera ever!!!
I can't say enough about this camera. Its super easy 2 use & produces beautiful pictures in all sorts of conditions. The zoom is great & does not compromise picture quality or clarity even at its maximum range. You can't go wrong here!
The PowerShot SD950 IS Digital ELPH, with its curved sleek Titanium body, is as powerful as it is exquisite. There's a high-resolution 12.1 megapixel CCD, an OpticalImage Stabilizer & 3.7xopticalzoom. Face Detection Technology is also on board 2 automatically give you just the shot you're looking for. Auto ISO Shift & ISO 1600 let you command low light like a pro. There's even a high-resolution 2.5-inch LCD that makes shooting & playback a delight.
