Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

I got this camera 3 weeks ago & think it is fabulous. I love Canon cameras, so a Powershot was a must 4 me. I spent awhile debating between the 870 & 880, but decided 2 go with the 870 because of some of the sketchy reviews the 880 was receiving, & I am so happy with me decision.

I went 2 a bachelorette party over the weekend, & the nighttime option worked wonderfully on all the pictures I took in bars. Several other girls were taking pictures, but mine turned out the clearest & brightest.

I also like how quickly the camera turns on. This isn't really a feature you think about, until you miss the perfect shot because your camera is taking forever 2 load.

The color options are also a lot of fun - black & white, sepia, all the vivid colors, etc.

I really like the wide angle lens that this camera has. I would rate higher except that I am concerned that the lens is susceptible 2 sticking if it gets exposed 2 sand or grit. My previous SD800 IS died this death a little bit after the 1 year warranty lapsed (and I believe that the warranty did not cover this type of problem anyway). I also like the dedicated button 2 go 2 viewing mode. This is a definite improvement over the SD800 IS.

We took the camera on vacation two weeks ago. It took great pictures & was very easy 2 use & small enough 2 carry in my hand or hook on a belt. Delivery was faster than I thought it would be even though we paid nothing extra 4 shipping. I would definitely recommend this camera.

Purchased the SD870 IS over a year ago (11NOV07) & it has performed better than expected. I also own the Canon EOS digital XT but the wife & I needed something compact 2 carry around. Since then the SD870 has become our primary camera.

On a different note, my 2 year-old was playing with SD870 & managed 2 jam lens. I submitted a repair request through Canon's website [...] & in less than 7 working days after I shipped camera 2 Canon my camera was back from the repair center in perfect working order. The entire process was simple, from submitting ticket request 2 checking status of repair online, & all this was done under warranty.

I've had this camera 4 6 weeks or so now.

Overall I'm very happy with it. I like the wide angle.

It fits in my pocket easily.

I love the intervalometer (time lapse) movie setting.

The Image Stabilization (IS) works really well, much better than my previous camera.

Some of the other Canon SD IS family are cheaper (SD800) with a slightly smaller screen & no time lapse. I like the 870 but could have bought the 800 & probably been happy.
