The P1i is a 3G data-enabled device, compatible with third-generation mobile networks that offer broadband-like transfer speeds--up 2 384 kbps--providing quick & easy access 2 audio & video streaming, Web surfing, multimedia messaging, & email wherever you go. This phone includes a secondary camera lens on the front that lets you use the P1i as a video phone. During a video call (placed 2 a compatible phone on a compatible network), you can see a live video stream of the person you're talking 2 & they can see you. When the only choice around is GSM, the P1i can hop onto a GPRS data link. Alternatively, you can also switch 2 a Wi-Fi connection (802.11b) when you find an available wireless LAN/hotspot.
Always being connected while on the move is now a normal part of working life. The Sony Ericsson P1i gives you the ability 2 handle your corporate or personal emails, contacts & calendar wherever you are. It offers support 4 a broad range of push email services including Exchange ActiveSync & BlackBerry Connect & allows 4 remote wiping of email & PIM data--something critical in the event of the phone being stolen or misplaced.
Because the P1i is a Symbian smartphone, it features solid integration of phone, contacts, & calendar applications that can be easily synchronized with other devices & services, making it very easy 2 bring your office with you wherever you roam. Easily edit documents you receive as attachments 2 emails, or that you have stored on memory card. The P1i lets you read & edit documents on the move, whether Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel. Or use other tools, such as the alarm clock, a stopwatch, task & notes applications, a sound recorder, & a file manager.
In addition 2 MMS & SMS messaging, the phone ships with a built-in email client with support 4 POP3, IMAP4, & SMTP protocols. Push email is also supported, allowing you 2 have instant email on your mobile phone, just like on your home computer. Messages are sent directly 2 your phone as soon as they arrive. You can take advantage of the dual-function keyboard 4 messaging, or use the device's integrated handwriting recognition 2 write your email & SMS messages. With a carrier data plan, you can easily connect 2 the Internet & browse the Web with the included Opera browser.
This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity, & includes profiles 4 communication headset, handsfree car kits, & printing. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) & enjoy dial-up networking (DUN)--surf the Internet, send email, & access files from a server. And with the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music 2 a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. In addition 2 USB & Bluetooth connectivity, this phone also has an infrared receiver 4 data synchronization.

The P1i shines as a music player, offering a great way 2 listen & organize your digital tunes on the go. The in-phone media player supports video & audio playback--supported audio formats include MP3 & AAC. Catch the latest news via the on-board FM Radio or stream mobile TV direct 2 the large screen. Vital Statistics
The Sony Ericsson P1i weighs 4.4 ounces & measures 4.1 x 2.1 x 0.7 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up 2 10 hours of GSM talk time (3.3 hours of UMTS talk time), & up 2 440 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies.
Software: Software 2 edit Microsoft Word documents & spreadsheets comes included. The included calendar, alarm clock & address book are a bit more versatile than those found with the Palm OS. There is lots of software available 4 this phone [..]. I have installed the Big Encyclopedia that runs on Mobipocket, but it is apparently 2 big 2 install automatically the usual way, so I used the Media Manager 2 install it on a memory card. I have also installed a dictionary, a password manager & a better calculator than comes with it. I also recommend Swiss Manager when you need a more powerful file manager.
Keyboard: I like it. There is also a touch screen keyboard that can be used.
Camera: Outdoors it takes 3 Meg pictures that look as if they came from a dedicated digital camera, although they look a bit better re-sized 2 2 Meg size. Indoors the results are very noisy & good only if you are desperate.
Other: The phone uses a Sony connector 4 headphones, but cheap adapters 4 a standard stereo plug are available. The CPU runs a little slow 4 the demands of the phone, so sometimes there is a little wait 2 load software. As with other phones, the FM radio needs the headphones attached 2 act as an antenna, but then reception is good. Unfortunately, Sony uses their micro-MemoryStick (which is hard 2 find) instead of an SD card.
