I guess external hard drives have gotten cheap enough that they are considered disposable, but that doesn't save your data!
/>
/>I had one of these 4 less than a year & it just quit working. Light still comes on, still powers up - but it doesn't exist 2 the devices it is connected to.
/>
/>Like the other reviewer, I used it as extra storage on my digital video recorder - mine is the Moxi DVR from Charter.
/>
/>One day I noticed that my DVR was telling me that I didn't have space 2 store my shows.
/>
/>I looked back at the drive & it was blinking. I powered it down & back up & it came up with a solid light, but it doesn't work. My DVR doesn't know it is there & I took it 2 my computer & it sees the device, installs drivers & then when I go 2 "my computer" it just isn't there.
/>
/>It died.
/>
/>Not worth the hassle, pay more 4 a name brand & get better quality...

Rating: 4 of 5 Perfect, except...
Purchased this drive 2 serve as an external HD 4 my Dish Network receiver. The drive lives in an entertainment center & stays cool, even next 2 a warm recevier. Flawless performance & data transfers occur faster than the Dish Reveiver typically estimates them 2 take.
/>
/>One note that I had not seen mentioned about this drive. There is a bright blue light behind the front grill that cannot be turned off. The light indicates power & changes intensity with drive activity. This is a little annoying as part of my home theater setup.
