I'm very pleased with these drive. I bought it because my old PowerBook can not power USB harddrives. I have worked with it on both Mac & PCs & works fast (especially on FireWire) & reliably. It can get quite hot when used intensively, but that has not affected performance in any way.
At the time of writing, there are (slightly) cheaper & lighter drives if you don't need the firewire, but if you need or like this interface, this is a great choice.
Rating: 5 of 5 Iomega250GBPortableHardDrive
IomegaPortableHardDrive [#33962, FireWire400/USB2.0] working very well so far. Remember you "lose" 18GB 4 setup. So really you have 232GB available 4 use. All harddrives are the same 4 setup loss...this Iomega is no different. Don't sweat the 5400RPM... remember the disk is only 2&1/2inches. The first couple uses the unit ran super hot! I called Iomega Tech & they said it's normal...as a matter of fact the more I used the unit the less hot[cooler] it became. Mine came formatted with FAT32...so you'll have 2 reformat the disk 4 NTFS. In my case [I have WinXP SP-3], I went 2 the disk manager [diskmgmt.msc] & reformatted the disk. A word 2 the wise on reformatting... disconnect from the INTERNET & exit all other active programs before starting the format process. Use cables provided by Iomega if possible [If you talk 2 Iomega Tech, they will ask you this] Oh yes, I use a pie cooler rack 2 put my unit on while it's in use...then the unit is about 3/8inch higher with good air circulation underneath. Based on my experience with this unit I purchased another one but 500GB this time.
Rating: 4 of 5 Works with both Mac & PC
I purchased the Iomega 250 GB harddrive 2 save photos on. I switch back & forth between my pc & Mac daily. It works fine... the only problem I am having is that on the pc I have 2 have both the power cord & USB cord plugged in. It will not run without the power cord. The Mac Firewire works perfect & no need 2 plug in the power cord.
It does get warm, but cools off quickly when unplugged. Not an issue 4 me.

Just bought the IOMEGA33962FIREWIRE 400 USB2.0 250 GB PORTABLEharddrive. Had my office mgr try 2 install 4 an hour , then she did a 30 min on-line chat with support 4 this product We were told the MAC was not compatible, & 2 the return the harddrive 4 a full refund, including shipping. My Mac is a 1.5 Ghz G4 NOTEBOOK which is 3 yrs old. Never had a bit of trouble with it. We installed the IOMEGA on my sons PC & it did fine, but would not come up in the MAC. The info says this product IS compatible but I would not get it, MAC USERS...
Rating: 5 of 5 I'm happy with it!
Just wanted 2 say I got one of these 2 use with my Macbook Pro 17, & it works flawlessly! I would recommend it 4 sure. It was plug & play, good thing cuz I just got the MAC & still trying 2 figure it out.... I'm a happy camper being PC free, & having 450GB harddrive (200 on MAC & 250 GB backup). Life just doesn't get any better!!!
