LaCie Desktop Hard Disk 301285U 500 GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

About 2 months or so after purchasing this product I noticed that many files that I had been storing in it were getting zeroed out & leaving only the file icon with no data. At first I wasn't sure how this was happening or when it even occurred until I went 2 open the files affected, because the file appeared 2 still be there. I finally realized when this was happening after one time when I restarted my compute & noticed I had 12G available on the drive due 2 it being such a significant change. I have had several other 5-10G losses since & am weary of turning my computer off anymore.

When I inquired 2 LaCie about this issue they told me that I would need 2 reformat my drive & it should fix the problem. My problem what I'm supposed 2 do with the 400+G of data I have remaining on this drive that I would like 2 keep in tact. They don't seem 2 have any suggestions 4 that that don't require spending at least another $100 or more. If I was trying 2 spend that much on a hard drive I would have done so in the first place. Now I'm going 2 take that $100+ & get a drive from a different manufacturer I guess & toss out this unreliable peice of junk.

Got the product quickly & attached 2 system - it works just like I need it 2 work.

I use this as an external HDD 4 my PS3. It works great. Since it comes FAT32 preformatted, it connects flawlessly 2 the PS3 as well as my laptop.

Its been 5 months since I bought it & its been awesome so far.

I'm old school when an 80 meg hard drive was considered enormous. I can remember paying $200 4 4 meg of memory! 500 gig 4 under a hundred bucks. Plug into the usb drive & works like a charm. Amazing!

This is only my second external drive; my first was also a LaCie. I was pleased with my first drive, but I am already disappointed by this new one's features. It has two panels on the front & the back made 2 look like polished aluminum, but, in your hands, looks obviously like plastic. Also, you would think & on/off switch would be an obvious inclusion, but this drive doesn't have one. And finally, there is no CD inside the package. Instead, all the files are located inside the drive, even installation files. Although I don't need the installation files, I have 2 wonder what good are installation files when I have 2 have the drive installed 2 view them.
