Antec MX-100 3.5" USB Aluminum Enclosure for SATA Hard Drive

Good product. The only minor problem so far that you have 2 turn on & off & then on again 2 let vista 2 detect usb device. Anyway it doesn't occur on a regular basis.

Compared 2 other enclosures this is an excellent item. I chose 2 give it four stars because like all the others the case is not ventilated, no fan option, no auto shut-off. Someday there may appear an enclosure that deals with the heat build up. The problem seems 2 be that when you shut off your computer the drive in the enclosure continues 2 run & gets very hot; which concerns me about the effect upon the hard drive. There is a shut off switch on the item if you remember 2 use it. Otherwise this is as good as it gets 4 any enclosure that I have found. Presently I used three different makes & models of enclosures & this is definitely the best looking & doesn't lack in performance. I am well pleased with this purchase.

Ugh. I got a lemon. The screw hole 2 attach the case was machined improperly & it cut clear through the side of the mount. So, I can only secure this with one screw. The label on the back peeled off & the AC adapter cord is too short 2 be of much use.

It's not even worth my time 2 send this back because I need 2 use it 4 a project right away.

I was using a Western Digital My Book 500gb External HD 4 almost a year & occasionally when I would reboot my machine the drive wouldn't be recognized until I unplugged & restarted it a few times. Eventually it stopped being recognized altogether so I decided 2 purchase a new enclosure, hoping that the HD itself was still functional. Well, I ordered this through regular standard shipping on a Monday & it was at my place on Wednesday. That was an amazingly fast turnaround.

Anyway, I have only been using this enclosure with my WD 500gb HD 4 about a week now but everything has been perfect so far. The enclosure looks nice & is way slimmer than the original Western Digital one that the drive came with. And the setup takes about 30 seconds. Although I have no clue how well this will last, I am extremely happy so far. With the speed of shipping, the good value, the nice design, & the ease of setting it up, I would definitely recommend this highly.

I replaced an 80GB hard drive with an 1T drive, but didn't want 2 give away or put the old drive on the shelf.
