Big Produxt in a small package
I picked this camera out 4 my birthday. It is wonderful! The pictures are clear & sharp,no matter how much they are enlarged. The 7x zoom allowed me 2 take great videos from 20 rows up at a recent sporting event. I wish the sound was a little louder, but when you download 2 a computer, it is easily adjusted. The scene selector is fantastic, just select what you want 2 photograph, push OK, & click! I would highly recommend this camera 2 anyone who wants a small compact camera loaded with features. Worth every penny.

Love the camera but miss the date stamp
I chose this camera based on its small size, high megapixel, & high zoom capabilities but will be returning it due 2 the missing & very important date stamp. I am using the camera 2 take pictures of my growing child, & need 2 be able 2 look back & know the precise date the picture was taken. Otherwise, I LOVE this camera, it takes nice, clear pictures, is easy 2 use (once I read the manual cover 2 cover), was reasonably priced, is cute, fits nicely in my purse 4 those spontaneous hilarious moments kids seem 2 have, & perhaps most importantly, has an almost zero delay in taking the picture once you press the shutter button. (This last point was the reason I decided 2 upgrade from a Kodak EasyShare.)
All in all, I am VERY, VERY disappointed in Olympus' decision not 2 provide date (and less important 2 me, time) stamps with its cameras. It pains me 2 return this camera, but the stamp is just that important 2 me.

More MP is not always better
I have used Olympus cameras 4 about 15 years & have always been happy with them. Unfortunately, I have used this camera 4 six months & am getting a new one. There are several good things about this camera, but there is one huge flaw: poor image quality. I have been doing some research & discovered that the megapixels are the culprit. While the camera has 10MP, the image sensor was not made 2 accommodate 10MP's worth of detail. Because the image sensor is small, it produces grainy photos. You will get better quality images with a camera that has fewer megapixels and/or a larger image sensor.

Some things I DO like about this camera: 1. Good close-up/macro shots; 2. "Scene" settings, such as "Available Light;" 3. Image name includes the date the picture was taken; 4. Portability/size of camera; 5. You can take panoramic photos (if using xD card); 6. Built-in lens cap; 7. Large LCD screen.

Some things I DO NOT like about this camera: 1. Grainy pictures, especially indoors; 2. Flash is too bright & frequently washes out my subject; 3. Lens is easily smudged & can be tricky 2 clean because it is so small; 4. Can't make the image be 4x6 ratio, so I have 2 manually crop all of my photos before printing them.

A useful small camera
I use an FX format SLR & film cameras 4 more formal photography, so the Stylus 1010 was purchased 4 general family snapshot use. As an upgrade 2 older model Oylympus S350 & Canon S400 models, the S1010 represents a substantial improvement. The lens quality & focal length range is much more useful, pulling in far subjects with longer telephoto function & covering wider landscape & rooms with wide angle coverage. Flash output is higher, so there is much less light fall off when taking indoor shots. Both shadow & highlight range have improved with far greater detail.

Long delays between shots are gone, continous shooting is 4x faster & transfer of files 2 a PC is similarly improved. The view finder is bright & viewable in sunlight, controls are handy. The steady shot function is very effective in controlling camera shake in low light. 4GB of storage & long battery life are convenient.

Software features 2 me are gimicks that have little practical purpose & quickly lose their entertainment, need 2 fiddle, value. I can turn a camera on its end 2 change from landscape 2 portrait & I can pretty much tell when people are smiling. "Gimick" of course does not include improved exposure & contrast control with useful metering options that are included in the product.

The camera will not deliver high end SLR results, as it does not have the optical range or image sensor coverage & density 2 do so. But as a point & shoot casual camera that can handle a lot of use, it's a very good product.

Great little camera!
This was an upgrade 4 me from another Olympus product. It is a wonderful little camera. Pictures are clear & crisp & the zoom is great. The only thing I can think 2 mention that may bother some people is that when you are filming videos, you can't toggle the zoom while the camera is running. You need 2 set the zoom where you want it & then start filming. I bought the 1010 kit & the microSDHC card allows you 2 film 30 minutes of video at a time (with lots of room left over on the card). An empty microSDHC card will allow 4 1500 pictures. Great Buy!
