I bought this & used it as an every day backup with my Mac. 6 months later, it stopped reading on my Mac as well as any other computer I tried 2 test it on. Luckily they had a 3 warranty on this product, so I dropped it off 4 RMA & get it replaced with a new one. 6 months is definitely not a reasonable lifespan 4 any harddrive these days & I had some hiccups with getting the RMA...long story.
ANyway, I might just sell it rather than using it, but I don't know which model I should buy that's as small & affordable & more reliable. I guess no HD is ever reliable. Good thing I have 2 backups.
Rating: 2 of 5 Maybe i got a lemon?
So my HP laptop screen went out & needed 2 go in 4 service (dont even get me started on Hp!!) So i went out & bought an this harddrive & connected my computer 2 a screen & was able 2 transfer all my files 2 the harddrive. I was using the drive 2 access files 4 class until i got my computer & i also knew it was possible my harddrive was going 2 be wiped out during the repairs. Anyways my computer comes back 2 weeks later- luckily they didnt wipe out my harddrive- but when i plugged in my harddrive it wasnt being recognized- & any computer i plugged it into wouldnt recognize it. I couldnt return it because i couldnt find the UPC, so i called customer service which i must say was quite helpful. they had me uninstall it & then reinstall it & it then worked. around 6 weeks later my laptop was going back 4 the third time - my screen was out again & i couldnt even hook it up 2 an external screen- & my harddrive wasnt being recognized by any computer! i tried uninstallinga nd reinstalling & it didnt work! i called tech support & i told him i tried that & he asked who otld me 2 do that & i said the last tech support i spoke 2 & he said i shouldnt do that again! (very weird!- makes me a little wary of their tech support) Neways the guy concluded i had a defective harddrive & he told me 2 send it in- but now i dont have a back up 2 my computer & i cant access anything on my computer- so i had 2 bring my computer in & have them manually back up my files on a CD. I eventually found my UPC & since it was after the 30 days i wasnt able 2 return it but they let me exchange it (this is at circuit city). I havent tried the new one yet but im hoping this original one was a lemon!

I knew little about portable HD's, but after some research this one rose 2 the top. The SimpleTech offers me the space I need & is easy 2 use 4 someone not so technical. And then there is the color, true blue.
Rating: 4 of 5 So far, so good
I can't complain. The storage space is great. It's easy 2 use (plug & play). I'm not crazy about the online software that comes with it. That I found difficult 2 use. But so far, so good. Very compact.
