I'm amazed at how much slower USB drives still are compared 2 external disk drives. Bang 4 your buck, I'd go 4 the external drive.
When compared 2 the $10 sticks with the same amount of space, I only noticed a slight increase in speed if any at times.
My advice, these things are great 4 small files, but don't use them 4 moving large files or large amounts of them. Since they are only good 4 small files, stick with the $10 counterpart.
If you do have 2 move files, I recommend an external drive. The SATA drives run at 1.5Gbps 4 reading a writing (9.8X faster) which still doesn't take full avantage of the USB2.0 bandwidth capacity of 480 MBps (24X faster than this memory stick). A gigabit network connection would be theoretically faster still barring any other traffic.
Until USB sticks can improve their speed by 10X, they aren't going 2 be that competitive. On top of that, they still don't last as long as the external drives.
At least it works, though.
