Drive Genius 2
- Disk defrag - optimizes the drive, then combines all the empty free space together into one contiguous block. This in turn improves the overall speed and performance of the drive
- Directory repair, repartition on-the-fly, device/volume cloning, integrity testing, benchmarking, secure erase and several other tools to help maintain your hard drive
- Your hard drive should be defragged every 2 months or so. If you are working with smaller files (Microsoft Office, emails) you should run defrag every 3 to 4 months
- OS X only optimizes files under 20MB. It also only optimizes the files not the drive, so even though the smaller files are optimized there can be empty space in between the files themselves. Drive Genius 2 has the ability to optimize the drive, by putting all pieces of the file together
- Able to repartition your hard drive 'on-the-fly' (no need to reformat the hard drive) allowing you to add, delete, hide or expand partitions live.

Exonerated! Balancing the Bashing- read on...
There WERE boot problems with some Intel Mac models running newer Leopard versions when Drive Genius 2 was first released, caused by Apple's footdragging with their delayed release of required startup parameters. However, all other Drive Genius 2 features were functional. Prosoft Engineering was head & shoulders above other utility software vendors (who shall remain unnamed) in their response 2 the fix with the release of v2.0.3. Then in September 2008, v2.1 was released with many improvements & the addition of DriveSlim tm. Drive Genius is a stable, mature product that is continually being improved & in nearly all cases, at no additional cost 2 users. It is indeed the best product of its type available.

Please Make it Work
Once they make it work it will be great. Good easy 2 use interface that looks good. But it doesnt work yet on new macs. Warrior is the only one so far that will work when you download the update online from them, but warrior is soooooo basic. Time will tell

Drive Genius 2 Crashed my Intel iMac
Drive Genius 2 arrived today. I installed it, & used it 2 check permissions. No problem. I booted from the DG CD, & set it 2 defrag.
It got 2 about 35% & signalled "Done." I knew it couldn't be, so I set it again 2 defrag. It said it couldn't, as the drive is corrupted! Something about an overlap. It now can't mount the boot drive, so the computer won't boot from its hard drive. I booted from the Disk Warrior 4.1 CD, but it was unable 2 correct the problem. Now I've booted from the TechToolPro 4 CD, but it doesn't look like it's going 2 work either. Intel iMac 20, OS 10.5 with the latest updates...

Don't buy this product
Total waste of money not 2 mention screwing up a fairly new Apple iMac computer. Will not run from installed disk or will not boot & run from loaded disk. Save you're money. If you don't buy this product from the manufacturer the support is almost non-existent, so don't save an extra $10 by buying it from Amazon; go 2 manufacturer!

Works exactly as it should!
I received this product yesterday & the version shipped was 2.0.3. I used it on my 1-year old MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.5.4. I had no problems running any of the utilities or booting from the disc. It defragged my drive beautifully (I was honestly surprised at how fragged it was), repaired my permissions, & checked 4 bad sectors on my hard drive (none - woo hoo!).
For those of you who purchased Drive Genius 2 that is not version 2.0.3, go 2 Prosoft's website & you can download the latest update 4 free, as well as get a free bootable disk, if needed. I think a lot of the people who left bad reviews never came back & updated them because the software does automatically check 4 updates & 2.0.3 was released in June 2008.
