Speed Racer: The Videogame

For the price I did not expect much.

Pros:
- Tracks are interesting.
- Moderately refreshing 2 be able 2 drive cars in an unconventional way.

Cons:
- The AI 4 the cars latches onto you too tightly. Even if you are driving slowly they never get very far ahead & even when you enter Zone mode & blaze past everyone, invariably somebody is always just behind you. So clearly the AI is cheating.
- No weapons. You can only shunt & flip your car.
- Music is weak. No original Speed Racer tune.
- Voice acting is rather weak.

Make no mistake about it, readers. Speed Racer: The Videogame is a fun & exciting game that captures the look & feel of the movie. It's the closest thing 2 an F-Zero game on the Playstation 2 as you're going 2 get. It's intense. It's challenging(boy, is it ever) & it's one of the best movie tie-in videogames I've seen thus far. You can race as Speed or over 15 other characters in races through amazing futuristic tracks featuring loops, corkscrews, jumps & more from the movie. Smash, jump, flip & spin with massive "car-fu" combat against your friends in multiplayer.


While I love this game, however, there are ways that I felt they could've improved the game. First off, they could've gave more story as 2 what happend with Speed Racer & company(friend or foe) at this year's races. Second, why no "Speed Racer" theme or music from the movie? That boring 'techno' music just doesn't cut it. Third(and perhaps most importantly), they could've had ways 2 improve your car's handling-steering-acceleration & speed(like in the Need 4 Speed or Gran Turismo games)so, if you wanted 2 finish a race without having 2 change a racer halfway through 4 a better car, you could.

Overall, Speed Racer: The Videogame is an excellent game despite the flaws I listed above. If they make a second game(which, in my opinion, I feel they won't due 2 a poor box-office run), maybe they can correct those mistakes.

They've got a Wii, Playstation 2, & a Nintendo DS version of this game; why not a Playstation Portable version? Who wouldn't want a version 4 their PSP? It's a great game. Come on, WB Games.

Discovering the shortcuts is the key 2 getting the fastest times on all three tracks & mastering the Normal & Endurance modes. If you play the game well enough, you will be able 2 unlock new vehicles, including Racer X. Get behind the wheel & go, SPEED RACER, go!
