Compre este disco externo por la versatilidad que presenta al tener la opcion de conectores usb y firewire, y obviamente por su tamaño que permite trasladarlo a cualquier parte sin ocupar mucho espacio como ocurre con los discos externos de mayor tamaño. hasta el momento no he tenido ningun contratiempo con su desempeño, se conecta sin necesidad de fuente de corriente como lo haria un dispositivo USB; es rapido en la transferencia de datos, mucho mas veloz si la conexion se hace por medio de firewire; su capacidad de 250 gigas (que en capacidad real de almacenamiento viene siendo como de 230)es mas que suficiente para para el almacenamiento de archivos y proyectos y trasladarlos para uso en diferentes computadoras, del trabajo a la casa por ejemplo, o como simple unidad de almacenamiento de datos. Lo mejor es su pequeño tamaño.

Menciono que ha funcionado bien hasta el momento por que ya tuve una mala experiencia con otro disco externo de modelo My Book de 500 gigas de la marca Western Digital el cual no funciono bien desde un inicio ya que no lo reconocia la computadora, despues de formatearlo lo reconocio por algun tiempo y volvio a fallar.
Un inconveniente que le veo es que para utilizarlo por primera vez ( en windows) hay que formatearlo para que pueda ser reconocido por la computadora, proceso que tarda bastante tiempo. En fin, hasta el momento lo considero un buen producto.

The Western Digital Hard Drive gives me peace of mind knowing that my stored information will be backed up. It is compact, reliable & all that i can ask of an external hard drive.

I purchased this hard drive with the intention of using it as a backup 4 my new Mac, but while waiting 4 it, I learned that the best way 2 transfer files from my PC 2 my new Mac was by using an external hard drive. Great - but, when I plugged it in 2 the PC, nothing. I couldn't find it anywhere. Nothing came with it in the way of instruction - except a link 2 the website. Western's support site was either no help at all, or just too advanced 4 me - & I can pick this stuff up pretty quickly. However, I plugged it in 2 my Mac - instant success without any configuration. Long story short - I'm using a thumb drive 2 gradually transfer files. If anyone can tell me (in basic terms) how 2 get my PC 2 recognize the drive - great.

I love firewire. Any firewire cable I have connects any two firewire devices I have -- except this one.

After I fought this disk out of its packaging, I discovered it requires its very own kind of firewire cable -- with a regular firewire 400 end 4 all the other devices & a two-cable divided end 4 its own connectors.

Okay, I thought, at least it comes with a storage bag so it's easy 2 stow the cable with the drive & hopefully not lose it -- I plugged the two little ends into the drive, which was difficult because they were oriented with opposing twists so it was hard 2 get the second one lined up 2 go in with the first one plugged in. I plugged the firewire 400 end into my mac, & waited 4 the drive 2 power up. Nothing happened.

Looked at the drive, noticed that the second little connector bit had come loose. Gosh guess it needs 2 be more firmly seated. Shove it in with vigor. Put the drive down. Connector comes loose. Why do I think that a loose power connector might not be a recipe 4 reliability on a hard drive?

Package up the drive & return it the next day. Thank heavens Amazon returns are easy peasy. Unfortunately this is the only firewire pocket drive I really like on Amazon.com, so I have 2 go somewhere else 2 find my time machine.
