The Best Bluetooth
I've tried a handful of bluetooth headsets from motorola. It works well & people seem 2 hear our conversations clearly with the Treo 750. Sound quality is good, it auto adjusts earpiece volume based on surrounding, so I am always able 2 hear the callers. And they always seem 2 be able 2 hear me pretty well

This was a great product. It blocks the noise on both side & your conversation with others is crystal clear.

Terrible fit. It's not useable
The Original JawBone "Gen 1" which I own 4 a year is NOT recommended.

Problems:

1. I don't like its fit because the device is heavy & because it keeps dropping down on my cheek so that the sensor that supposed 2 be resting on my cheek isn't touching it. So it doesn't detect when I talk & therefor doesn't do any noticeable noise canceling.

2. It is relatively heavy & big, & it must be used with the annoying ear hook.

3. The ear buds I received were all not comfortable. They are either too big, too small, or just not feeling secure. They are irritating my ear when used. I just can't use this device.

4. The volume is very low! even with the volume set 2 all the way up. I was not able 2 hear callers speak when I was in slightly loud environment unless I kept pressing the thing into my ear. What a joke... this is the 21st century I'm surprised the volume is low. Maybe they tried 2 save battery life. It's also a problem because the device doesn't seal your ear canal, it really just sits on the outside of the ear.

I used the JB 4 about month, because it cost so much & I felt bad not 2 give it a fair shot. But I had enough... it has been on my desk non used 4 several months now.

I'm now looking at the BlueAnt V1 which supposed 2 have great fit, great noise canceling, strong volume, lightweight, & out of the box voice command which is a 'nice 2 have' feature.

Good Bluetooth
Good solid bluetooth. The only down side is the Jawbone has 2 be tight against your face 2 activate the microphone (there is a white pressure pad) & when you move quickly (like a quick turn) you have 2 just press it against your face again. But 4 the most part it stays tight, & nothing a little adjustment won't fix.

Sound quality is good, it auto adjusts earpiece volume based on surrounding, so I am always able 2 hear the callers. And they always seem 2 be able 2 hear me pretty well.

jawbones connected 2 the ear bones
First such product we have purchased. I chose the JB based on consumer reviews & the fact our tech. people at work also use the JB. It works well & people seem 2 hear our conversations clearly. With the Blackberries we are issued - the phone is worthless in a crowd or loud environment because they pick up all ambient noise, the JB eliminates that & allows you 2 carry on a conversation. The only downside is getting it 2 fit correctly - which could be user error !!

These days, it seems that wireless Bluetooth headsets are a dime a dozen, but Aliph's Jawbone stands apart from the pack not only due 2 its unique looks but also thanks 2 some seriously amazing noise canceling technology. Originally developed 4 DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) 2 create a communication headset that would pick up voice in hostile environments, the Jawbone offers some of the best clarity from a Bluetooth headset we've experienced.

Sophisticated modern industrial style meets the next step in audio technology with the Jawbone Bluetooth headset.

It can be worn on either ear, & you can customize your fit by choosing from one of the included earloops & earbuds.
The first thing you notice about this headset is its rather chunky size & cheese grater-like texturing on the exterior. Designed by Yves Behar, an award-winning industrial designer who also contributed 2 the design of the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child, aka the $100 Laptop), the Jawbone certainly has that iconic modern look that will be copied 4 years 2 come. It's also a bit large on the face (due 2 the embedded technology & speech sensor), which reminded us of Lando Calrissian's assistant, Lobot. But then there's no easy way 2 disguise a Bluetooth headset, & it's probably an advantage as passersby won't think you're just muttering crazily 2 yourself.

The Jawbone can be worn on either ear, & it comes with four earloops of varying sizes 2 fit your lobe. Made of solid metal with a rubber cover, they're fairly comfortable around the ear. The trick, however, is getting it on over the ear, & this is the Jawbone's biggest disappointment. Because it's so stiff, you literally have 2 use both hands 2 try 2 slip it on over your ear. And since we don't wear our headset constantly, we missed a few calls while performing this dance. Also, the metal frame does bend (as we found after carrying it in our pocket), which can be viewed as an annoyance or as a feature--enabling you 2 form-fit the frame 2 your ear. It also comes with five ear pads of varying shapes & sizes, & we tried one of the teardrop shaped pads 2 secure the Jawbone inside our ear sans metal frame--it was comfortable & worked 4 awhile, but isn't a solution if you're moving around a lot.

As with Steve Jobs, Behar is not a fan of protruding buttons. Thus, the Jawbone's two controls are hidden within the headset, requiring you 2 press either the front or back of the unit 2 answer calls, adjust volume, or turn on/off the noise cancellation function. While we've read some reviews that complained about these hidden controls, we had no problem in accessing them & appreciated their tactile response. The Jawbone also comes with a custom-fit recharging cable that can either plug into a PC's USB port or into the included wall jack. We enjoyed the flexibility of the USB charging, but wished the cable could have been a more standard USB mini-jack (for those times when you forget 2 bring the cable along).

But the true test of the Jawbone is how its "noise shield" performed. First, a little about this technology. The Jawbone has a small piece of rubbery plastic that protrudes from the bulbous microphone & sits flush against your face, & this sensor tells the Jawbone whether or not you're speaking & can remove background noise from your ongoing speech signal. It can also dynamically adjust the volume of the incoming audio from your call.

We tried the Jawbone in a number of different situations, & 4 the most part it worked flawlessly. Sitting at our desk with the stereo volume cranked up while playing The Chemical Brothers, our call partner was none the wiser. She didn't hear any of the music coming through, & our voice came through strong on her end. While standing on a street corner, the undulations of traffic noise never made it through 2 our caller, while we noticed an uptick in volume with an increase in traffic noise.

However, the Jawbone wasn't perfect, as it doesn't do a great job in windy situations. Still, 4 the good majority of situations you'll find yourself in--from busy airports 2 talk-heavy coffeehouses 2 traffic-laden city streets--the Jawbone should perform very well, masking the surroundings 2 improve fidelity 4 you call partner as well adapting your ear volume 2 the surrounding environment. We just wish the ear frame was a bit more flexible.

Pros:

  • Amazing background noise masking capabilities--even when faced with loud, thumping music
  • Outstanding adaptive volume as the environment around you changes
  • Options 4 customizing the fit
Cons:
  • Metal earloop frames are hard 2 quickly put on
  • Non-standard USB connection is a bummer if you forget the cable at home
