Western Digital WDG1S5000VN 500GB My DVR Expander eSATA

To anyone out there with a TiVo HD, TiVo Series 3, or TiVo HD XL DVR & you want 2 add extra recording hours/capacity 2 your DVR, then I HIGHLY recommend that you purchase this Western Digital My DVR Expander.

At first, I was skeptical 2 buy this DVR Expander because of the product description stating that it will only add 60 more hours of HD & 300 more hours of SD recording space 2 a DVR. After I spoke with a TiVo Customer Service Rep, who assured me that the Expander would actually add 600 hours of SD recording space & 65 of HD, I bought the Expander 2 try it out.

To my surprise, this Western Digital My DVR Expander actually increased my SD recording space by 626 hours (instead of 300) when I plugged it up 2 my DVR, & the Expander increased my HD recording space by 72 hours (instead of 60). Without this Expander, my TiVo DVR originally held only 21 hours of HD recording space & 184 hours of SD. Now, thanks 2 this DVR Expander, I have 810 hours of SD recording capacity & 93 hours of HD.

Overall, this DVR Expander is a great buy, & it definitely adds MORE recording space 2 your DVR than the 300 SD hours & 60 HD hours that the product description states.

I purchased this product last August & it installed on my Tivo HD without any problems. Immediately my storage was extended 4 HD recordings. My Tivo's Hard Drive had 2 be replaced & I purchased a replacement from Weakee's & installed it today. I was kind of worried if I would have any problem reinstalling the storage unit 2 work with my new drive. After going through the Tivo Guided Installion, I reconnected the drive per WD instructions & it instantly was recognized. No problems what so ever. When I originally bought the unit from Amazon, it was being sold 4 $144, now it is listed as selling 4 $119. You can't go wrong with this purchase. No more worrying about running out of room 4 all the HD programs.

Excellent product...easy 2 use, & easy 2 setup. I did not want 2 mess with upgrading my internal drive, so this was the best option 4 me. Also, with the recent price drop of these drives, this decision was a no-brainer.

If you have Cox cable, ONLY the Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVR box will work. No other. Unfortunately, it isn't easy 2 exchange boxes. Cox is always running out.

It is nice 2 have the expanded storage, but the installation took several attempts. We've had it hooked up 4 about a week now, & no other problems have surfaced.
