Beware my my friends of old (XpProfessional 2002 oem) copies of bogus software being sold on Amazon. By the likes of PBJWorld. Not only that, they let him lie & claim it was unopened. I purchased a copy & found it had a fake key. It was made by a key generator. They want me 2 return it 2 the guy who sold it 2 me. Mircosoft now has the case. Gave them what they needed 2 go forward. He want me 2 return it , 2 make it disappear, I would guess this 2 be so . By the way he refuses 2 deal with me. Shame on Amazon too, 4 letting this guy sell bogus software.
Buy 4 only those you know. Amazon will not back you UP! I 4 one will not ever shop on Amazon again. Burned by this. Never NEVER AGAIN . They lost me as a customer. Amazon make false statements that they care . They do not . I have not made false statements'. Pbjworld sold me a copy of XpProfessional that was not what they claimed . It had been opened, used & packaged with a fake key . Beware buyers of this site'. Trust only those you know & no site that gets 5 stars from most buyers . No one that perfect .
Amazon customer service sucks .There is no real support .
Rating: 3 of 5 Drivers missing
I've used OEM XP 2 successfully replace Vista on several computers, both laptop & desktop, brand names Dell, Toshiba & HP. Why? I have multiple legacy devices & software in my office: printers, scanners, hardware & software repair tools, disk burners, network attached storage & so on, none of which have Vista drivers released by their manufacturers. I also find websites such as Webex being unreliable under Vista IE7. It's cheaper 4 me 2 replace Vista with XP than it is 2 replace all existing hardware & software.
Using this OEM disk does provide a reliable installation of the basic XP operating system. But on those computers which come from the manufacturer with Vista installed you will be missing the XP compatible drivers 4 various internal subsystems such as sound card, modem, network cards, USB hub & so on. Sometimes, but not always, the computer OEM website support page will provide downloads of the drivers you need. You will have a better chance of finding the XP drivers if the manufacturer provided the computer model in question preloaded with your choice of either XP or Vista OS. If necessary, call the manufacturer 2 find out if they provide drivers 4 an XP version of your computer. I found that the initial installation of XP on a previously Vista computer left several subsystems inoperative, but going into the Control Panel>System>Device Manager 2 delete the non-functional subsystems, followed by reinstalling them using the Add Hardware function & allowing the system 2 go online 2 find drivers was successful. I may have been very lucky. Note, if the nonfunctional subsystem breaks your internet connection, you are out of luck!!
If the problems & solutions I've described are mysterious 2 you, DO NOT buy this product. And the full price version won't be any better 4 you.
This OEM version of XP is cheaper only because you give up the right 2 call Microsoft 4 support. Otherwise, this is exactly the same software as you find in the full price version. The full price version WILL NOT have any more XP drivers 4 your subsystems than does the OEM version. If you are a system builder, you will have received XP drivers with each of the subsystem devices.
You can, as I did, take a chance & install XP on computers that were originally Vista driven. I was lucky in being able 2 find XP drivers 4 each of the devices in my computers, after the conversion. When & if I do this again, I will try 2 secure the XP drivers BEFORE I blow away the Vista.
Make sure you have a Vista install disk 4 your specific computer BEFORE you remove Vista, in case you are unable 2 make the XP work.
Good luck!
Rating: 5 of 5 Great bargain
Having 2 reinstall Windows can be a bear, especially when you need 2 spend all day installing updates & service packs. This one, with service pack 3 shorts that job down 2 about an hour & a half total. The drivers are adequate & only required a few updates on specific peripherals.
Rating: 5 of 5 Works better than Vista
I had a hard time finding a place that still sells XP. I was not impressed with Vista at all, having purchased Home Premium 4 one of my machines. And when time came 2 upgrade another machine in my home network from the old old old Win2K it was running, I decided 2 go XP instead. I'm very happy Amazon still carries it!
Rating:1 of 5 Not what I'd want
Typically, I would prefer 2 stay with one of the more common & tested versions of the product than take my chances here.
