Stick 2 Ubuntu
I ordered this 2 see whether, in 2008, Gnome or KDE was better 4 day-to-day desktop use. The short answer is: Gnome. Thus, Kubuntu is really not that interesting relative 2 the base Ubuntu distribution, which comes with Gnome.

Kubuntu sucks....
Same as Ubuntu with all the same wireless/sound/endless/wasted time configuring problems with a different color box.

Hail!! OS X & WINDOWS!

Using Linux will make you love Windows & OS X that much more.

It is outdated version. New version is available.
Kubuntu & Ubuntu always get my best words but version 8.10 (released on October 30, 2008) is already available:

A nice integration of a real operating system
Linux has come 2 an amazing level of maturity, & the Ubuntu family (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, etc.) are very pleasant options of Linux 2 use, very well integrated & useful. From easy installation, auto-detection of internet connection, painless updates, very useful GUIs, & a huge number of applications available make you think about all those chores about defragmenting, cleaning virus & spam from your hard disk & reinstalling software a thing of the past.

Even upgrades from one version 2 the next one (e.g., 7.10 2 8.04) are done through the internet in a simple process almost automatically! This would be one of those rare cases in which you'll need 2 reboot after installing software (it's & upgrade after all).

It's amazing 2 me that all you'll need is in a single CD & from there you repartition hard drives, install dual-boot options (even two or more Linux distributions coexisting with Windows & booting from the same initial menu, all drivers 4 almost anything included in the CD or easily accessed through the internet, & an incredible number of applications included (Office suites, internet browsers, email applications, money managers, music, video, & movie players; games, etc., etc.) & everything highly configurable & modifiable.

From a financial viewpoint it's an incredible bargain, in which 4 a few bucks you'll have a powerful operating system & applications that just now, other software development companies have started 2 realize the Linux advantage in design & developmental process.

From a legal stand, it's one of the beauties of the modern world, because you don't have 2 keep track of each "serial number" of the program that was installed on what computer, like the restrictive EULA (End User License Agreement) from Microsoft & other software companies that don't give you much rights about how 2 use the software. The EULA restricts installation 2 a single computer, & it even limits your right 2 make copies & backups.

The General Public License (GPL) under which Linux is released (including all Ubuntu flavors) allows you 2 use the software in any way you see fit. From one CD you can legally install the software 2 an unlimited number of computers. There are no serial numbers & no "genuine windows (dis)advantage" that slows down your computer in an attempt 2 validate your serial number as "authentic". Just these features should be enough 4 a bunch of people 2 chose Linux (any Linux) over other operating systems.

In summary, it's a powerful real multi-tasking OS, with incredible versatility & flexibility, extremely low cost (even when buying support), reliability, stability (measured in months or years with no downs & crashes, instead of hours or days), & many, many applications 4 anything you may want 2 do.

I have Ubuntu installed in my desktop, Kubuntu in my laptop (after deleting Vista), & Xubuntu in a netbook. What else I can say? After many years of using Windows I have switched completely 2 Linux. I don't miss Windows at all!

kubuntu heads & shoulders over microsoft
Everything, from the ease in installing 2 its unencumbered desktop & its small footprint place KUbuntu (Ubuntu with a KDE interface) heads & shoulders above any of Microsofts OS's with only ONE EXCEPTION, it's cost.
I strongly recommend that anyone interested in kissing the Blue Screen of Death goodbye obtain this software.
