Yep, I think that`s how IE is supposed to work. =D

Darned... 2/8/2006 4:19:53 AM Btw... It fouls up yer registry in any case... After trying this I`m now in the process of trying to get me IE6 to work again. Microsoft`s instruction for error: "Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system." don`t work (registry`s supposedly `clean` from IE7 - which it is not IRL), reinstalling IE6SP1 doesn`t work, XPSP2 reinstall doesn`t work... Just now trying System Restore on another computer...

So a slight warning: Running IE7b as a standalone shags yer registry in any case.

Darned... 2/8/2006 6:06:47 AM To fix what running the IE7 fouls up:

1. Remove the IE7b2 folder. 2. Run registry editor of some sort and delete all IE7 related data. 3. Run "sfc /scannow" (this may take some time) 4. Go to c:\windows\inf, rightclick ie.inf and choose "install".

Baz 2/9/2006 12:22:16 PM This stops IE6 from being able to load pages as it starts your default browser -- firefox in my case -- and loads the page in there. No more windows update.

After spending a day trying to correct this I ending up re-installing windows. I had to ring-up microsoft and speak to some foreign bloke who I could hardly understand to get it activated because I`ve already installed it "too many times" (naughty me for re-installing once a year or so). After I got my computer set up again I decided to search for "IE7 standalone" and came across a script which will delete a particular registry key once you`ve finished using IE7, and IE6 will work again. Why didn`t I search for this in the first place? Typical. Anyway, don`t do as recommended here without getting the script first. You`ll find it by using google.

There`s a bit more tweaking to do on a regular basis, and that is handled by an excellent batch script by Jon Galloway, and is available for download from here: http://blog.skyzyx.com/2006/02/02/internet-explorer-70-beta-2-standalone-is-available/

If you`re getting the flicker-quit issue, this batch script will resolve the issue.
